Vedaranyam — the land adorned with the glory of the divine lamp.
At the sacred Vedaranyeswarar Temple, when the arthajama pooja (late-night worship) concluded and the holy sanctum doors were closed, the lamp within the sanctum was flickering, on the verge of going out.
In that divine stillness, a tiny mouse approached, drawn by the scent of ghee. As it tried to sip the ghee, its nose touched the wick — and in that sacred moment, the flame was stirred and burst forth into a bright, radiant glow.
Though it was a mere act of instinct, it rekindled the sacred flame — a symbol of devotion, light, and divine presence.
Lord Shiva, ever compassionate, saw this humble act. As a mark of grace, He blessed the mouse to be reborn in its next birth as Mahabali Chakravarthi, a noble emperor of great fame.
This story highlights the immense spiritual merit of even the smallest act of service done in a temple — especially the lighting of a lamp.
In temples, the lamp is not just light — it is the presence of the Divine. To keep it burning is to keep devotion alive.
வேதாரண்யம் – விளக்கழகால் புகழ்பெற்ற புநித நிலம்
வேதாரண்யேஸ்வரர் கோவிலில் அர்த்தசாம் பூஜை முடிந்து திருக்கதவு மூடப்படுபோது, கருவறையில் உள்ள விளக்கு அணையத் தையாராக இருந்தது.
அந்த நேரத்தில் ஒரு எலி நெய் வாசனைக்காக வந்தது. அது நெய்யை சுவைக்க முயன்றபோது, அததின் மூக்கு தீபத்தைக் தோட, தீ மீண்டும் பிரகாசமாக் எரியத் தொடங்கியது.
அது சிறிய தூண்டுதலால் புநித விளக்கு மீண்டும் ஏரியதைக் கண்ணியிட்டார், கருணைமிகு சிவபெருமான் அதை ஆழ்ந்த பக்தியாக ஏற்று, அதுத்த பிறவியில் அந்த எலியை மகாபலி சக்கரவர்த்தியாக்க ஆசீர்வதித்தார்.
கோயிலில் ஒரு விளக்கை ஏற்றுவது — அது ஒரு தீபமாக அல்ல, ஒரு தெய்வீக அருள் நம்முள் நிலைத்திருப்பதற்கான ஒரு புனித செயல்.
Sacred Process & Instructions
Initial Setup
Always place Siva swamigal's photo on a clean white cloth. In front of the photo, light a lamp with ghee or oil, and offer a few flowers.

This pooja may be performed by anyone without any distinction of gender, caste, religion etc, but the person must eat purely vegetarian food.

Being compassionate by choosing only vegetarian food is the first step towards worshiping Siva swamigal.

🕉️ Step by Step Guide
Sitting Pose
Sit comfortably and keep your eyes closed during the entire process, except when needed.
Vibhuti Application
Take vibhuti, chant Om Guru three times, and apply between eyebrows.
Sacred Mantra
Om. Vang! Vasi chittaya vidmahe
Sing! Siva priyaya dheemahi
Thannoh Siva prachotayat!
Chant 3 to 11 times, preferably aloud
